Maintain a Healthy Looking Garden with few Tips and Guides

Tips on how to maintain your lawn and keep it looking beautiful this season:

LAWN SPRING CLEAN UP
Rake the dead grass, dead leaves and any other winter debris as soon the weather permits (March – April - the sooner the better). The spring clean up will expose the lawn to sun and will reduce the dead spots on your lawn caused by winter mould. By doing this will also ensure the lawn is ready to receive "The Wake Up Fertilizer" which will yield a much better spring appearance.

LAWN MOWING
Make sure your lawn gets cut on a regular basis (at least once a week) at 5cm height in the spring and fall and at 7cm height in the Summer time.

LAWN WATERING
The best time to water the lawn is in the early mornings (5am – 7am)
In the Spring, when temperatures are below 25 C and it has not rained, water the lawn every 2-3 days for 20-30 min.
In the Summer, when temperatures exceed 25 C and it has not rained, water the lawn every other day for 30-40 min.
In the Fall, when temperatures do not exceed 25 C and it has not rained, water the lawn every 3-4 days for 20-30 min.

LAWN FALL CLEAN UP
In some situations, it is necessary to rake leaves 2-3 times in the fall. If the fallen leaves covers the turf for more then 6-7 days in a row, especially when the lawn is still growing, the turf can suffer permanent damage. Also make sure your lawn goes in to winter as clean as possible.

It is cheaper and a pleasure to maintain a healthy beautiful lawn, than it is to spend extra money on special treatments to fix up a weak lawn.

TREE AND SHRUB PRUNING

The best time to prune a tree and clip a shrub is before the buds break (early Spring) and before the second growth (August - September).

TREE AND SHRUB WATERING

Water each tree and shrub once a week, in the morning with 20-40 L (depending on the size) in the dry season.

TREE AND SHRUB WINTER COLD PROTECTION

Maple and most fruit trees that are still young (intense developing stage) need their trunk to be wrapped up with burlap (protective material) before winter and unwrapped in spring. Even evergreen trees and shrubs (Alberta Spruce, Junipers, Cedars and Boxwood) need to be covered with burlap before winter and uncovered in spring.

It is cheaper and more rewording to prevent a tree or a shrub from dying than to keep on replacing it.
